U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, announced on February 12th that the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) created by the 2014 Farm Bill will, with its partners across the nation, have up to $720 million to grant toward projects that will help communities support wildlife habitat, among other goals. Projects are selected competitively, and must at least match the USDA commitment.
To see a list of projects for 2016 and to learn how to apply go to USDA Natural Resources conservation Service. This maybe an opportunity to get a local project funded to improve and protect water quality or thwart the ravages of drought through the use of native plants and natural landscaping, while at the same time promoting soil health and habitat development.
Hello Donna,
I just filled out an application with USDA, ” Farm Operating Plan for Payment Eligibility” for creating Wildlife Habitat for pollinators on 3.5 acre of my property. Since, I have never used the land for farming (soy beans or corn) I did not quality for the USDA CP42 Pollinator Habitat- this program pays land owner on a monthly basis per acre for 10 year commitment. However, I talked to our “NRCS” Natural Resource Conservation Service at the county office and they have grants funds available to supply 90% of the cost to create a Pollinator Habitat on the 3.5 acres, so I filed an application with them. I will keep you in the loop! Like always I’m busy creating a habitat for all wildlife here in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Love being a WILD ONE 🙂
That’s great news, Barb. I’m looking forward to hearing how things go!
