April 15, 2016

Proposals for the National Fish and Wildlife Fund (NFWF) Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund’s monarch grant program are due May 2, 2016 by 11:50PM EST.

Once monarch butterflies leave their winter quarters in Mexico, they will require appropriate host and pollinator habitat along their migration route to successfully return to their summer quarters. Shown here is a male monarch resting on swamp milkweed.

The Fund focuses on three priority conservation needs related to monarch butterflies:

1) Increasing Habitat along the monarchs’ migration route including best management practices

2) Increasing organizational efforts related to capacity and coordination

3) Increasing native seed and plants availability

Grants may be up to two years in length and will range in size from $50,000 to $250,000. Matching funds of at least 1:1 are required.
