In association with the California Native Plant Society, the Native Plant Conservation Campaign and its website promotes the conservation of native plants and their habitats through collaboration, education, and advocacy. It is a network of affiliate native plant societies, botanical gardens and other native plant conservation organizations from throughout the USA.
As we’ve seen federal and state funding erode for a variety of conservation related efforts, collaboration, education and advocacy is more important than ever. As plants become more endangered due to habit loss and effects of climate change, organizations must pull together to work toward their common goal of preserving native plants and natural landscaping. For without native plants, human sustainability is limited.
You and I know how important native plants are to our very existence. I think Doug Tallamy states it best when he says:
“Now, with human-induced climate change threatening the planet, it is biodiversity that could suck that carbon out of the air and sequester it in living plants if given half a chance. It is plants that turn sunlight into all of the food that supports life on Earth….” In other words, “plants are the source of all energy that supports life.”
So if your native plant organization hasn’t already joined CNPS as an affiliate, suggest they do. Together our efforts will be that much more successful.
