This is the time of the year my Wild Ones chapter — Fox Valley Area — sends out their conference registration invitations and the first look at their spring plant sale flyer. If you live in this area, I highly recommend considering attending their 21st annual Toward Harmony with Nature (THWN) conference on January 28, 2017 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Expert speakers will be available to share their knowledge about native plants and biodiversity. John Stiefel is shown here.

Keynote Speaker

Keynote speaker will be Rob Nurre, the Surly Surveyor, who will give us a “Look at the Presettlement Landscape” and its native plant communities. Later in the day, he will help us learn how to access and interpret the historic land records to use as a resource in planning restoration projects.

To learn about the other 10 speakers and their topics and the rest of the events throughout the day, see the THWN website and to register. There’s also a silent auction with many great items donated by vendors, exhibitors and Wild Ones members.

Native Plant Sale Order Form

Besides pre-ordered plants, there are usually extra plants available for walk-in native plant enthusiasts to purchase.

The Wild Ones Fox Valley Area Chapter’s (WOFVAC) spring plant sale flyer lists over 120 native forbs, grasses and ferns for sun, shade and wetland. Plants are made available to the community at a very lucrative price with the primary goal of simply getting native plants into the landscape.

Download the WOFVAC 2017 Native Plant Sale flyer. Pre-orders are due March 20, 2017.  Pick-up is May 20, 2017.

Other Conferences and Native Plant Sales

Many of the Wild Ones chapters throughout the USA hold native plant conferences and native plant sales including trees and shrubs. For some it is their main fundraiser, but foremost, the goal is always education about and advocacy for native plants and natural landscaping. Check the Wild Ones website to find these events near you.
