Monarch and Goldfinch

August 7, 2017

While sitting on our deck with a Coca Cola and a magazine, I noticed a monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) land on Tall Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium fistulosum)). As I was filming the monarch, an American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis) landed on the Cupplant (Silphium perfoliatum) in the background. Watch as you see both of them flit about.

The yellow blossoms between the Tall Joe Pye Weed and the Cupplant are Sawtooth Sunflower (Helianthus grosseserratus). The Cupplant is about 45 feet south of the Tall Joe Pye Weed and the Sawtooth Sunflower about 15 feet south.
