May is Turkey Hunting Season

May 17, 2017

During the month of May, I spend as much time as I can make available to hunt the elusive wild turkey at our property in Shawano County, Wisconsin. Here are some of the sights.

Marsh Marigolds (Caltha palustris)
The diversity of woodland plants is awesome. Shown here in blossom is the white Wood Anemone (Anemone quinquefolia) and the yellow Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris).
Nodding Trillium (Trillium cernuum) and Wild Lily of the Valley (Maianthemum canadense).
There is quite a variety of mosses qt our hunting property.
Marsh Marigold and baby blue violets are blooming wherever there is a pocket of water.
Mushrooms are abundant everywhere. Here is one of the False Morels (Gyromitra spp).
A frilly carex with Wild Lily of the Valley.
Grasses and sedges make up a vital part of the plant life inventory of a cedar swamp.
Ferns awakening from the long winter.
Small wetland areas are already covered with pond scum. Could this be a floating egg mass from local Wood Frog residents? We’ll see as the spring progresses.
