Free Milkweed Plants

Are you restoring a large-scale native habitat in the eastern half of the US? Any ecoregion is appropriate. If so, you are eligible for free milkweed plants from Monarch Watch, if the site is at least two acres.

Monarch Watch is again offering free Milkweed for monarchs. Successful applicants can receive up to four trays of milkweed just for paying for shipping. For more details about the program go to Monarch Watch’s Free Milkweeds for Restoration Projects.

The deadline to apply for free restoration milkweeds is January 15, 2017.

Monarch Watch only distributes plants that are considered native to the recipient’s location. Here are the Midwest species:

Midwest species:
Asclepias syriaca (Common Milkweed)
Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly Milkweed)
Asclepias incarnata (Swamp Milkweed)
Asclepias verticillata (Whorled Milkweed)

Also includes short grass prairie species,
Asclepias speciosa (Showy Milkweed)
