Endangered Species Day

May 20, 2016

Hoary puccoon (Lithospermum canescens (Michx.) Lehm) is threatened and/or endangered in many states. This plant pops up occasionally in my prairie in appreciation for being rescued from destruction many years ago.

Thanks to Lorrie Otto and other crusaders against DDT, the EPA was formed in 1970 and we are now able to enjoy the flight of the American eagle. Since 1973, when Congress passed the Endangered Species Act (ESA) we are now able to also enjoy the beauty of some of America’s most precious plants and animals. Administered by the USFWS, here are 10 wildlife success stories from the ESA I thought you might like to read about.

Today, Friday, May 20, 2016 plan to join the US Dept of Interior at 12 pm ET for a Twitter chat on how the ESA is helping to protect wildlife. Tweet your questions using #askInterior.
