Natural Landscaping

December 23, 2018

Do you have a passion for native plants and natural landscaping? Do you wish you knew more about native plants and biodiversity? If so, I invite you to join this blog and learn about native plants, natural landscaping and biodiversity a little at a time.

As Executive Director of Wild Ones for 17 years, one of the things I enjoyed the most was to share with members and others the new and interesting information I learned about things related to the Wild Ones mission. So now as I continue on with my next life adventure, I look forward to sharing the new and interesting information I learn about native plants, natural landscaping and biodiversity through my blog.

Don’t hesitate! Sign up by clicking on the green sticker to the right and join me in my next life adventure. Learn about what’s happening in the “natural landscaping with native plants movement” — and maybe a few other things. If you have something you’d like to share, please comment on one of the posts or send an e-mail (accentnl@new.rr.com) – I’m looking forward to everyone participating in the chatter.

I post about three times a week. You can receive a notice each time I post, or you can receive a weekly notice which comes out on Friday afternoon. Subscribe now so you won’t miss a thing.

It will be nice to have a place to discuss how we broaden native landscaping in our yards and civic places. Great idea and thanks for starting it!

Many municipalities have quickly recognized the benefits of natural landscaping due to municipal budget constraints and reductions and the general public is now benefiting from the implementation of natural landscaping techniques to save water and create more personal time.

You are so right, Amado. I’ve had the privilege of working with several local municipalities in developing new or updating old landscaping ordinances. It’s slow progress, but brings refreshing hope that one day humans will be closer to being one with nature.

After 25+ years active membership, I remain supportive, but am perhaps more an “auxiliary” member of Wild Ones these days. Will enjoy following native/natural landscaping news via your posts.

Hi! Kit –it’s been some time since we’ve communicated. I recall the days when our chapters were just starting out back in the mid-1990s. Glad to have you join my blog.

    Hi, Donna
I joined Wild Ones when I lived in the Milwaukee area, but I moved in 2013 to Boston area where there is no Wild Ones chapter. Following your blog will be a way to keep in touch with midwest natural landscaping stuff — thanks for that. And you might be interested to know that I’ve recently discovered and joined an organization here that is a parallel to Wild Ones: GrowNativesMassachusetts. I thought it a good thing that there are natural landscapers in parts of the country where Wild Ones is not active.
And I have this huge back yard now that I am just starting to transform. Native plant communities are needed everywhere.

How nice to hear from you, Louise. I’m also glad you found a resource similar to Wild Ones in the Massachusetts area. This is a wonderful time to be involved because of all the extra emphasis by the US federal government on using native plants to help maintain habitat for our pollinators. I see that Grow Native Massachusetts is an affiliate of the Wildflower Center out of Austin, Texas. This will be a good resource for you.

Yeah I love landscaping. It’s where I can express my thoughts during my free time. I also do aquascaping. They are actually fun and stress relieving.

It’s good to hear from you Katheryn. Believe it or not, I had not heard about aquascaping before. Have you tried using native wetland plants with aquascaping? Now I have a new subject to research.
