May is American Wetlands Month created in 1991 by the EPA and its governmental and private sector partners to acknowledge the importance of wetlands to our ecological, economic and social health. There is much to be learned about the value of the wetlands to our very existence on this Earth. One of my favorite stories from the Wild Ones Journal goes back to the days in which we first began fundraising for the purchase of the WILD Center. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.
“The Marsh – Nature’s Water Purifier” by Tom Schneider from the July/August 2006 issue of the Wild Ones Journal
A recent story published in the Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine includes Chiwaukee Prairie Illinois Beach Lake Plain, and features Wild Ones member Pam Holy. Wild Ones Fox Valley Area Chapter is touring this site on May 21st which “includes six different wetland types, prairie and oak savanna, and is home to more than 930 native plant and 300 animal species.” I’m looking forward to it.
